this is my first winter actually chasing reds with a flyrod, eventhough i've been flyfishing for 2 yrs(thats how long its taken to be successful on a regular basis). so far i figured out that they like a darker fly, like a grizlyhackle redfish seducer (has a molting shrimp coloration). they are only a little deeper so i use a longer leader(18ft) instead of a sinktip, which i think is also better in the crystal clear winter water. haven't used a popper since november, thought about trying them out next time i go, is anyone having luck with topwater? next time i head out to sea i will be chasing false albies and spanish macks with my 5wt and cobia with my 8wt, i know most would go with a heavier set up, but i enjoy the challenge of lighter tackle. anyway just thought i would make my first post about something i love doing. if anyone has any suggestions or tips let me know. and i am also looking for a 9' 8wt medfast action rod for a good price ($100 range). my 8wt is med action, i want something a little faster since we don't get many calm days here in northeast florida.
