I have tried just about everything to get the gas tank out of my boat. All the foam is gone. I have taken all the gas out. I have tried to force it out w/ boards. Now i have a engine hoist in my boat and i tried to lift it straight out. it wont come out!! What can i do?

Are you lifting from the center, or one end??? With foam under you'll have to lift from one end...
or find a way to cut the foam under it at least partially.

Yes, the foam is probably holding it. See if you can work a wire under the tank and use a sawing motion to cut the foam.

Is it a full height sealed compartment? If you can get enough foam out from underneath the tank, maybe fill the compartment with water and maybe it's buoyancy could break it free? Just thinkin' out loud...

Removing foamed in fuel tanks is a major pain as you've found out. If you can find access to get under the tank (possibly by cutting thru a bulkhead or stringer) you can slice right thru the foam with a pressure washer (mine's 3500 psi). If you can, lift from one corner.

If you can't do that and the tank is junk anyway, you can cut the top of the tank and peel it out a piece at a time. I've done this with a air powered saw. First fill the tank with water so there are no fumes to go boom. I would make sure the tank is absolutely full of water by tilting the boat so the vent and fill hose are the highest point, fill it, then level the tank top, not necessarily the boat. As you cut, make sure the tank stays full by adding water as needed.

Me and my brother replaced the tank in his boat, and had the same problem. In the end we put the boat under a lift, rigged a chain hoist to the tank and literally lifted the boat, about 1 inch off the trailer, and left it for 2 days, before it pulled lose.

Two methods:
1. loop two strands of 80 lb mono around one end of tank, tie each end to a handle and saw through it
2. Remove sending unit and fill hose run rope in one out the other hook to a come along and lift out

I see your sig has a Wellcraft V20 and is this the 60 gallon center tank? If it is you should have some room on the sides after all the foam is removed. Like others have said take some type of line and work it under the front or back of the tank working it back and forth cutting the foam. I'm pretty sure it is only sitting in foam in the bottom of the boat. There is a V20 site which may offer more help wellcraftv20.com.

Take 2 4x4 boards and run them across the gunwale at each end of the tank. I did this to remove the tank from my Parker to be replaced. Then remove the sending unit at one end and remove the fill hose at the other. I took 2 lengths of chain and you can take an 8 inch by 1/2 inch diameter bolt and run it inside the tank where the sending unit was and place the chain around the bolt now that it is inside the tank. Place the other chain around the fill hose outlet on the tank and then I used come-a-longs to slowly pull up on EACH end of the tank at the same time. With constant pressure the tank will eventually break loose from the foam and come out willingly. If you do it this way, you will have an even removal at each end as opposed to pulling one side of the tank up before the other releases.

did you remove the screws they installed to hold the tank in place?

There are several tabs on the tank find them and pull them...
