Location: New England | How do you figure a CC is easier to clean? On an express/WA the fishing is done on the deck only, with a CC you have people fishing all around the boat getting slime, blood, guts and bait all around the boat. On my WA I have the wash down right there and spray anything off before it has a chance to dry, when done fishing I do a quick scrub and spray down and thats it. On a cold day take a ride on a CC and then on an express style boat and in seconds you will see the difference. If I was fishing out of Miami or the Keys I would want a CC but up here unless your a fair weather boater the protection from the elements makes the trip much more enjoyable for yourself and passengers. |

| BMS - IN my experience, blood and stuff get tracked all oer offshore fishing so your help, etc needs cleaning. Also, tower legs, rinsing salt from all deck and roof areas, keeping the cabin area clean. It all adds up. |

| I fished in open boats for 30yrs.Always questioning what I was missing when we returned to the dock exhuasted and beat up.I now fish out of a walkaround Downeast boat with an enclosed wheelhouse.I stay dry, warm and out of the sun.I can have a hot beverage/meal.I or my crew can lay down if we like. All of my gear stays on the boat so I am prepared to fish for everything. At the end of the day I am able to walk! All boats as you know are a trade off.Yes my boat is slower, but taking an extra 30min to get 30nm off shore is well worth it to me.Besides I love running the boat and have been learning that its not all about reaching the waypoint. If cleaning is an issue, just remember how much effort you put into it with any type of boat is your choice.Good luck with your search |

| Thanks again guys-- Looks like i will be checking out the Yellowfins, everglades along with the big grady over the next few months-- Another benefit of the Grady is the small below deck cabin for storage (head + sleeping = Tax deduction)--- does everglades/ yellowfin have this benefit ?

Location: MA, USA | Everglades - yes; Yellowfin, no - unless you get the 42, which, if you are looking at the GW3306, might be w/in your budget...
The thing is a monster, and there is an area rep selling his personal boat:

Contender 36FA is another to consider with a "bit" more of a cabin vs the CC bunks.

Location: Orange Beach, AL | Get the best of both worlds, Check out the Fountain 38 TE, it has a large cuddy that will sleep 4., w/ tax deduction
If you want an express, the 38 Sport fish cruiser is worth a look.
They have unmatched fuel economy and speed. The 38 TE has a large console with full windshield, you can just add wings for a full enclosure. The 38 TE is also a very dry boat, I have yet to have one once of spray in mine so far, even in cross winds. The ride is amazing, especially at 50+ mph.
The deck on the bow is easily accessible with integrated steps for 360 degree fishability
My vote goes for the center console over the express. I am usually at the helm, and nothing compares to driving the boat with a rod in your hand.

Location: North East | Let me save you a lot of time, aggravation and maybe some money. This summer spend as much time on a large CC and on an express as you can and then decide which is the best for you. It's the only way you'll know for sure which is best for you and you'll never second guess or regret your decision by doing it this way. There is a long list of pro's and con's associated with both styles... |

I may be wrong, but I think you also have to add cooking facilities to that list for the tax deduction. I'm not sure that a portable grill will suffice.
Can someone confirm? |

| Right you are--- IRS usually mandates a head, berth and galley (microwaves usually count)--- |

Location: Cary/Wrightsville NC | The law is vague. Make sure you can CYA if you are audited. The general feeling is these requirements must be fixed rather portable but there is nothing in the law to state that. It would come down to the IRS agent if in question. A sleeping bag and sterno stove would likely be disallowed.
Here is info straight from the IRS pubs...
--------------
Qualified Home
For you to take a home mortgage interest deduction, your debt must be secured by a qualified home. This means your main home or your second home. A home includes a house, condominium, cooperative, mobile home, house trailer, boat, or similar property that has sleeping, cooking, and toilet facilities.
The interest you pay on a mortgage on a home other than your main or second home may be deductible if the proceeds of the loan were used for business, investment, or other deductible purposes. Otherwise, it is considered personal interest and is not deductible.

Location: NJ/NY | When I checked on the tax deduction, in addition o the "creature comforts" you outlined, the loan had to be a Mortgage Loan- not a "cash" loan. |
