IPS and raising fish
As I do most winters, I am always looking for my next boat. One new trend is the IPS systems. The one thing I have not heard any info is the fish raising ability of them. Anybody have info either good or Bad on this isssue? My feeling is they will lack that nice hum of a standard diesel set up and not raise fish as well.

No matter what system you go with the diesel will still make it's "hum". With the IPS it just gets expelled in a different manner (underwater exhaust). Only one that will not hear it as much is the passengers. I would be concerned on how much it would cost to repair the damage if you stick those units on a sand bar. It isn't just prop bendin anymore, now you have two pods hanging down.

A 43 Spencer with IPS, docked next to my boat for a night on its way south. The Capt. had nothing, but praise for the IPS, and said the boat raised fish. It also had more interior space than a normal express.

I think they are the way of the future. As far as running aground they have built in features from what I understand that make it pretty simple to repair. I think the advantages far out weight the disadvantages. No Strut or shafts to drag.
35% better efficiency 20% higher top speed 30% reduced fuel consumption The rig I saw went out of the harbor sideways using the joystick! I'm sure it was just for show, but it was pretty neat! |

there is a difference bw ips and zeus drive
one of them has the "brains" inside the engine room and one has underneath hull and bolted on. I forget which one I think ipm is inside with zeus outside hull which would be more costly, i think I spoke to guys at calyber regarding this and they said it would be like 5k to replace underwater gear
