QUOTED BY PELAGICUS

So the Admiralty show more feature of the sea bed,i ask this mainly as i am looking to find new areas to try out.
The quoted data will be pretty similar.
Simply get the biggest scale chart you can find and ti will have everything you need.
...Like reading a book as some have said.

Her you go mate, on the left; the portfolio style 'Small boat Chart' package, in this case, covers Thames Estuary and Essex. In the middle the pre folded 'Small Craft Series' and on the right a standard Admiralty chart. All have the same detail, depending on which scale you order, 1:25000 being the largest and therefor the most detail.

Portfolios are great for an overall view of the area, however they are not done for the whole country.

Small craft charts are like old fashioned road maps maps, prefolded folded, uses lighter paper and fit out of the way, various scales are available. Small craft charts have same detail and size as its standard chart cousin, the problem with the standard charts is the heavyweight paper they are printed on, a pain to fold neatly, indeed, they are not intended to be folded (although we all do!).

Hope that helps. ET's OPO

At the risk of going off topic has anyone found the wrecks marked to be anywhere near the coordinates shown on the charts?

I guess one advantage of using the smaller sized charts is that putting a straight edge across to pick up the coordinates should be easier?

In a word, rarely. The wreck mark itself is way bigger than a wreck usually. Also, what looks like a lump or a dip on a chart might only be a subtle variation in depth, just enough to go over a contour marker, making it look more interesting than it is. There is no substitute for steaming around with a very sharp eye on the fish-finder, I have found some of my best marks that way.

Agree with Salar. Look for areas with tightly packed contours.
Wrecks are rarely bang on the button and there are hundreds charted with only a few producing consistent fish.
