Smile Knab Rock 07/01/2007

Fished knab rock this evening, got down there a little later than i was planning to, but turned out ok. From the first cast i started catching whiting. For the first 5 - 6 cast i had a fish a cast (On one cast i had 2 whiting on a pennal rig. The evening continued with whiting coming in a steady stream until high water, where i had a little lull in activity then started catching again around 40mins after high. Mainly had small fish, few bigger ones thrown in.

Used simple paternoster on one rod with a pennal rig (2/0 and size 2 semi circle) and a 2 hook boom rig (size 2's) with some lumo beads and bling on the other... Most fish came to the boom.

Think i should have went down to size 6's as i missed a few bites and found it weird i didnt get any dabs... Baits used were mud rag, mackerel, squid and herring. Most effective was mud rag mackerel cocktails.

Was nice to meet another member of WSF Ossi, was nice meeting you mate. You left just in time, 10 mins after you left it started tipping down! Called it a day then, was nice to go out and catch some fish.

The main reason i picked to fish knab rock is the shelter. As the prevaling wind is generally South Westlys, the steep cliff face behind you protects you from the wind. Stronger south eastlys, north/north east or eastlys can be a bit nasty as its more of a cross wind than in your face.
